Last week, while mining patents for our next post, when I stumbled upon a title reading “Method for Manufacturing Graphene Electromagnetic Wave Blocking Plate and Microwave Oven Using Same” it just knocked my socks off.
This, after slimmest and flexible Smartphone screens, is most commonplace use of Graphene we’ve seen so far.
So are you wondering what the role of Graphene in microwaves is? Well, Graphene is a brilliant absorber of microwaves and electromagnetic radiations. This property of Graphene makes it ideal to use in microwave shielding of ovens and other radioactive works.
Inspired by this, LG electronics has got a brilliant idea to make our kitchen gadget safer than ever. They are going to “grow” multiple layers of Graphene to shield the body and doors of microwave ovens.
One embodiment of the patent mentions growing graphene on both sides of a catalyst metal layer. This, later, forms a Graphene electromagnetic wave blocking plate. The layer will be able to prevent leakage of harmful radiation from these equipments.
Another cool thing about this microwave blocking plate is its durability that is way more than the current shielding and increases the overall lifecycle of appliance.
You can imagine the Graphene going mainstream in the future if LG has plans to use it in a household appliance like an oven. Apart from that, this also speculates the low priced Graphene that will be revolutionizing everything we own.
Using Graphene, the wonder material, for shielding the body and doors of ovens shows LG’s focus on improvement and innovation.
Yes!! if graphene, that people claim is going to be expensive, get used in such appliances that are commonplace then we can expect the lost cost Graphene in the near future.
